Trouble on the homefront

UC Regents Approve Steep Tuition Hike

Looks like I'm staying in Paris.
It's funny though, our generation.
I think people just want something to fight for.
I wish it was something like war or poverty, though.

  1. Tiffany, I don't think you understand the strike...

It is SO MUCH more than "people just wanting something to fight for"
People's education is at stake, which means their careers are stake, which means their lives are at stake for them being able to survive. A lot of students won't be able to afford to go to school after this year because of the tuition increase. So much is going wrong with the UC's where theyre cutting vital resource centers and ta jobs and cutting classes and staff hours and etc. It is a world wide revolution of students fighting for education.

  2. Pardon, I didn't mean to offend anyone, but it was honestly only a personal opinion. OF COURSE I sympathize with the cause and with those voicing their concerns because I'm equally affected by it too.

However, the intent of my post was not to lessen the cause or to demean it, but to shed light on the myopic nature of it. I do understand that it's a very important, even "life-threatening" issue to some, but I don't think that it's as sensational as people are making it out to be.

Yes, I think it sucks that tuition is being hiked, yes I think that public education should be, in fact, free, but our economy's going to hell, and someone's going to lose.

I just think that our energy can be better suited in other areas. Actual worldwide issues, for example.

  3. You didn't offend, I just wasn't sure if you were aware of everything happening. I've been really involved with this and wasn't sure how much you knew, being so far off in another country. I totally do respect your opinion, even if I wish it were different. Our politics differ. Perhaps when you're home, we'll discuss this more in person, seeing as the internet always leaves so much room for miscommunication.

Anyways, I hope you had a good thanksgiving, if you celebrated it at all, which I bet you did and cooked up some real yummy things. Today i baked a chocolate cake using red wine! it was exciting and delicious.

    take care tiffany, safe travels.
