Maja's Dai

I love my mom. I'm not talking about the typical "mom love" you find in greeting cards or after school specials, that obligatory, "of course I love you, you're my mother" type love. I mean, I really love my mom. I love all that she is. I love the annoying & ridiculous shit she does all the time, like when she pats down french fries or slices of pizza (actually basically any food prepared with any visible oil) with an obscene amount of tissues (even at nice restaurants), or when she sends me chain e-mails with photographs of photoshopped animals making stupid faces, and especially when she laughs. I think growing up I really believed that my mother was superhuman. She could do no wrong. She knew everything. My hand in hers could repel any monster hiding underneath the bed or behind the curtains. Sometimes I don't know whether my personality traits are really me, or just fragments of my mother -- but I know the good parts must all be her :)

So for mother's day I really wanted to celebrate her. I wanted to celebrate her humanness, but in light of all that she has done & gone through, it's all the more reason to believe that she's more than that. Unfortunately for me, planning in my family doesn't serve a high priority. . . nor does communication, punctuality, or "surprises." However, despite the obstacles & annoyances of logistics, things worked out according to, at least, God's plans.

10:00 AM me: hi braja
Jonathan: ha seesta
10:01 AM me: joo get my email
Jonathan: wych won mon?
me: da 1 'bout maja day
Jonathan: ooo dat one I got
10:02 AM me: dat mean everything o.k w/ plans?
Jonathan: jah mon

We took her to the Getty Restaurant for dinner (SURPRISINGLY delicious, even to my mother, who is damn near impossible to impress & Jon paid, hehe) and perused some of the exhibitions, afterwards Alice met up with us and we watched Cedar Lake's contemporary ballet at Royce Hall. Finally, some late night Yogurtland :)

This was her idea.
