After much pondering, the first American "pastry" I decided to introduce to my ignorant French friends was of course, the cupcake. Ignorance indeed is bliss, for if beforehand, they had known of the mindblowing deliciousness of the cupcake, and additionally known that it was not originally French, they would have committed suicide. And of course, you all know I am an advocate for suicide. (No just kidding, please don't go commit suicide because of this.) What a novel idea. Moist, delicious, bite-sized cakes topped with an equal amount of fatty, artery-clogging mixture of butter and powdered sugar (or worse, cream cheese)? Oh you poor French children -- you can have your flakey, buttery, shrimp-shaped croissants. I will have a cupcake with sprinkles. :)

I fished out my carrot cupcake recipe with
peanut butter cream cheese frosting & toasted walnuts on top.
