I know I'm inundating you with posts all of a sudden. It's because I don't know how to practice moderation in pretty much every aspect of my life. With that being said, you probably won't hear from me in the next couple of weeks because I will have hibernated into the chaos of Spring-Quarter-of-my-final-year-in-college-while-maid-of-honoring-and-freaking-out-about-fundraising-for-my-11-month-mission-trip oblivion.
By the way, have you been keeping up with my World Bake series? I promise it's at least mildly titillating -- if not just for the photographs. If in the future you want updates sent to your e-mail address (sort of like a "subscription"), you can sign up by clicking on the link in the column on the left hand side. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep updating this one -- I don't really know what this blog has become aside from a conglomeration of random comings and goings in my daily life that serve no organizational purpose other than to document that I'm actually semi-fulfilling this arduous thing called "living."
With that, I shall transition into talking about Simple Things, a café on Third Street in Beverly Hills that specializes in sandwiches and pies. I wrote a Yelp review with a pretty in-depth description of my experience there. My guess is that this place just opened because the owner, or someone I can only assume to be some sort of "marketing/social-networking" dude, is responding to every review less than 4/5 stars. I really hate it when they do that -- especially if they make a slew of grammatical errors and mis-use colloquialisms. It's pretty hilarious how Yelp has turned into its very own marketing force and any old idiot (enter: me) can walk into an establishment and one wrong move can drag down your entire business. I think my expectations based on Yelp reviews are only met 30% of the time -- which is really saying something about these sorts of mob-mentality standards.
Don't get me wrong -- I love trying out new places, even if it means being disappointed in them. I love this Third Street area :) I think I've combed through pretty much every place I've wanted to try here with the exception of that place called Marcelina Café. It actually surprisingly isn't listed on Yelp, but every time I pass it, my curiosity is peaked. I decided on coming to Simplethings with Erica on Sunday afternoon because I'm a sucker for cute, trendy cafés.
"I really don't understand terrasse-style cafés in Los Angeles. There's nothing to see but pollution and bad driving." - Erica
I don't get it either. I guess that's where our imaginations come in. The sound of car horns turns into accordion music, orange-skinned blondes are really bohemian artists, and the bands of concrete are actually fields of green.
. . . right?
You posted this! :D
