portugal, part II

We spent our second day in Belem -- a district in Lisbon.  Of course I had to visit their Contemporary Art Museum (FREE!).  We stopped by the famous nata pastry shop with lines worse than a ride at Disneyland overflowing out of the door, and ended the night with a traditional dinner and performance of fado.  Fado is Portuguese folk music comprised of a single female (sometimes male) vocalist accompanied by one or two classical guitarists.  It is a very intimate art -- no microphones or amplifiers.  Just God-given pipes.  Fado is incredible beautiful!  I've never heard anything like it.  It was a very enjoyable evening, and we all had fun dressing up :) Especially Tyson.

Tower of Belem

An old monastery. . .
Now I think it's a large building with different museums in it.

NATA!
Custard tarts with flaky, buttery, crusts :)

We had a funny & awkward server named Serge.
He really liked fruits of the wood.
