I used to fancy myself quite the music connoisseur. Oh yeah, my impeccable taste was refined the moment I discerned correctly that The Spice Girls were filthy frauds & that N*SYNC was way better than The Backstreet Boys. I knew it all. The anthem of my junior high years consisted of the musical stylings of Oklahoman born 'n' raised, The All American Rejects. It was at this time, after I had gone to my first live concert, that I was hooked. I've a scrapbook filled with concert stubs, autographs, and photos beside bewildered & sweat-drenched band members to prove it. High school started off as most all pre-pubescent years do -- with angst and, more angst. My speakers weeped with the moans and groans of Dashboard Confessional, Brand New, and later, Thursday. Don't get me wrong--I think I'll die a Thursday fan (or, rather, a Geoff Rickly fan), but Thursday ushered in the climax of my angst-filled music obsession. That's right. "Hardcore." Fear Before the March of Flames, The Blood Brothers, Everytime I Die. I was definitely one of those hair-dying, black eyeliner-wearing, t-shirt ripping, elitist asswipes. Since then I've amassed over 100 CDs, attended over 70 live shows, and grown in and out of 4-5 music genres. You could say that I am a patron of this specific art. I can't create it, but I can certainly appreciate it.
The music I enjoy at present is far from the deafening tunes of yesteryear. Instrumental pieces, soft vocals, French, ambient . . .pretty much the exact opposite. But I still love it, and, I'd like to share some current favorites with you.

ReplyDeletehi girly, how are you? If you like soft French voice, you might like Jessica Fichot. She's this twentysomething who sings sweet lullabies and plays the toy accordian. She's such a sweetheart.
