Westward, ho!

In the north, we find Lille. In the south, Marseille. To the east, Strausbourg, and to the west, Normandy. The sound of such a name may strike a chord in your memory. As my sister, you may have this thought: "Where the heck is normandy is it in France? I think i heard of a battle of normandy." (Sent via e-mail). Bingo. June 6, 1944 marked the invasion of the allied forces along the coasts of Normandy that would set the course for peace. Apart from it's significance in history, the regions of Normandy also pride themselves on expertise in Calvados, Pommeau, Camembert, butter, crêpes (from it's neighbor, Brittany) and of course, seafood. I spent a weekend (too short, if you ask me) in this wonderful region of France, and hope to someday revisit...

Shore of Omaha beach, D-Day beach.

Not a soul in sight, and so quiet.

The waves crashing somehow sounded like cannons.

I forget what this place was called, but it was also a war zone, and all these craters in the ground were remnants of cannons and explosions. They covered the entire area. It was sadly beautiful.

Mount St. Michel

Chevre on toast salade with galette d'oeuf
I don't know why the food on Mt. St. Michel was so horrific. Probably because it was extremely touristy and they figured they would never have to serve them again or maybe we just chose a bad café, but that salad was really terrible and the galette lacked any flavor. Bleh.
