The L.A. Philharmonic

No, your eyes do not deceive you. Although you have just seen two photographs of asian girls looking into the same vanity mirror, they are in fact not the same asian girl. Betty and I recently got snazzed up because we had a date. I always seize an opportunity to snazz up. Why not? We attended a performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA, performed by the LA Philharmonic. Robin Ticciati as the conductor and Lars Vogt on piano. When we arrived, it didn't take long to note that we were literally the only women present who were under the age of about 60 and did not wear a floral printed dress cut to below the knee, just above the ankle. I had to maneuver myself to avoid the walking canes and feeble traffic left and right. I wondered to myself why the elderly liked classical music so much. Wouldn't it be easier for them to fall asleep? Isn't it hard to concentrate for 2 1/2 hours on the melodic undulations of the violin? The concept is beyond me. However, before the show began and we were hightailing it to our seats, we came upon a group of roudy high schoolers, overdressed in their Macy's juniors department dresses, or Anchor Blue jeans, and louder than hungry cannibals. They were, of course, chaperoned by a clingy mother who had nothing but housework to abandon for the night. Brilliant. So we find our seats finally, and notice that the seats we had bought (they happened to be the cheapest) were surprisingly close and viewed the backs of the orchestra, but the conductor faced us. I much preferred this view, because I never knew how animated conductors were, their backs always seemed pretty unenthusiastic. But really! This particular conductor we saw had adorable curly brown hair and looked like a damn fool everytime he summoned the orchestra to a crescendo. Apparently that particular Thursday was his debut with the LA Philharmonic, which is very impressive. It was interesting to watch. The music was superb, and it was an overall enjoyable night :)

Oh. They didn't allow photography if you're wondering why we don't have any photos of the actual performance... and ... only of ourselves. ha.

Here is a google photograph of the conductor. Accurately captured, I would say:

He's so young, for all the credentials he has under his belt. Very talented.

Admittedly, he's somewhat of a darling:
British, trained in violin & piano, specializes in conducting operas.
Gorgeous smile ;) I mean, come on.
